With COVID-19 dominating the news we thought it was time for a GCD update! We’ve grown as a team, we’ve been shortlisted for two Digital DNA Awards, been involved in STEM programmes in schools, sponsored an award at the Young Enterprise Trade Fair and are supporting the Women Techmakers Conference 2020. It’s been busy and we are looking forward to the events still to come once everything settles.
But we’re always progressing here at GCD and with our latest range of projects well underway we welcomed some new team members into the fold. Thankfully, we’ve had time to get to know them before we headed off to remote work! The talented new recruits are Callan who is with us on his placement year (take a read of his “A Day in the Life of” blog post) and Lauren who has joined as a Developer. Read on to discover a little bit more about them.

Callan – Placement Student
Callan is in the last stages of completing his Foundation Degree in Portadown SRC but before he does that and heads off to complete his Computer Science degree at Queen’s University, he’s here with us!
When he’s not in the office learning from our Lead QA Engineer, Ally, he’s either at GAA training or in the gym. If he finds some free time outside of that, he loves to spend time in the kitchen cooking (yes really), his favourite foods to cook are Katsu curry or turkey meatball pasta bake. We can’t promise it tastes good, but as soon as he brings some in we can update this post. He is also partial to playing some Xbox.
Lauren – Developer
Queue Lauren – she is another newbie to join the GCD team, she has joined the self-coined Wolves team and has been using her first few months to get to grips with our Stack and projects. One of the things she developed was a team dashboard using React.
Outside of the office, Lauren is mummy to James (3) and Sophie (2). Her hobbies used to be shopping, holidaying and purchasing handbags but now in her spare time you will usually find her tiring the kids out at a play park. When the absolute ‘angels’ go to bed she enjoys a good series on NetFlix and a glass of wine!
