At GCD, we are passionate about our local community and ensuring everyone has access to the technology they need! We are delighted to have launched an initiative to help local children from Killicomaine Junior High School who are struggling to join online lessons from home, by providing them with much needed laptops.
Prior to lockdown we were proud to have been the hosts of Craigavon’s CoderDojo in an effort to promote STEM subjects and have fun while doing it. Part of a wider global movement, the Craigavon CoderDojo club was run by a great team of skilled and experienced local volunteers and staff members. Open to all young people between the ages of 7 and 17 years old, the club aimed to help children, of all abilities, learn how to code and expand their programming knowledge through the free workshops.
As the CoderDojo workshops are currently paused, those laptops have now been repurposed to Killicomaine Junior High School, including MacBooks and Dell XPS 2 Chromebooks, in an effort to ensure that all children have access to the equipment they need to learn online and continue their education during these difficult times.
Thank you to the staff who continue to work tirelessly in supporting the pupils, we’re pleased to have played a small part in helping those who need it most.
